Gordon W. Whitten - Consulting Engineer

Gordon Whitten adds his extensive knowledge of power cables and associated systems to EIG's collective knowledge base. His experience encompasses practically all aspects of designing, specifying, applying, and installing power cable systems, ranging from medium voltage distribution cables through high-pressure fluid-filled (HPFF) transmission cables. He has held several positions in one of the largest electric utilities in New England, and has project management expertise in many projects of varying sizes specializing in power cable installations. He has taken these projects from conception through route studies, permitting, specifying cable and accessories, and has directed their installation.

Gordon spent 35 years at New England Electric System (NEES) Companies (now National Grid USA) prior to taking early retirement.   His more notable projects include installations of 115 kV oil-filled cables and 115 kV and 345 kV high-pressure fluid filled pipe-type cable systems. Recent projects include an HPFF cable system with two-loop fluid circulation, and several medium voltage solid-dielectric subtransmission and distribution cable circuits.   Complementing his experience in power cables, Gordon also worked for several years in the distribution engineering and substation engineering groups, where his assignments included design engineering, equipment specification, and project management involving new facilities and facility modifications.

Gordon has a Bachelor of Science degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He has been a Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and a former member of IEEE and the Insulated Conductors Committee of the Power Engineering Society.
