Bob Misterka has more than 36 years of experience in the electronics and electric power industries, working in various capacities including design, development, engineering and project management. Prior to joining EIG, Bob spent 32 years with National Grid USA, formerly New England Electric System. From 1972 to 1981, Bob worked in Distribution Engineering where he engineered and managed numerous overhead and underground distribution projects. Between 1981 and 1999, Bob performed telecommunications design and project management for National Grid (“NGRID”). This work included feasibility studies and system design and project management of microwave, fiber optic, mobile radio and supervisory control projects. During this period, Bob managed projects for microwave radio installations in substations and mountaintop facilities. He also engineered the installation of a fiber optic loop communication system for a large substation complex. From 1999 until his retirement from National Grid in November 2004, Bob was responsible for development and engineering of substation supervisory control and data acquisition (“SCADA”) projects at NGRID. Bob oversaw a major upgrade of NGRID’s substation remote terminal units (“RTUs”), which included commissioning more than 300 DNP 3.0 RTUs. Bob also served as chairman of NGRID’s Substation Integration Steering Committee for several years. In this capacity, he guided the development of standards for integrating new communication and control technologies into NGRID’s transmission and distribution substations. This included the introduction of fiber optic, wired, and wireless communication between substation RTUs and other substation protection, control, and monitoring equipment. Bob also designed, programmed and implemented distribution automation projects, including a system to monitor and control line reclosers in the Cape Anne area in northeastern Massachusetts, and an automatic distribution load monitoring and control system in Williamstown, Massachusetts. At the beginning of his career, Bob worked for U.S. Electrical Motors, General Electric and Raytheon. He spent 4 years in various positions focusing on the design and development of electronic equipment and systems. Bob holds a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He also holds a Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Institute Of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
