Michael D. Feinman, PE - Consulting Engineer

Mike Feinman has spent more than 30 years in the power transmission and distribution business at one of the Northeast's largest electric utilities. During that time, he held a variety of roles in engineering and in support of transmission and distribution (T&D) operations. His experience includes distribution engineering, system planning, substation engineering, protection engineering, automatic meter reading, and field force automation. These experiences have given Mike a broad and varied background in both the rapidly changing electricity and information technology fields.

Prior to joining EIG, Mike worked for the National Grid USA Companies, formerly the New England Electric System Companies. In 1984, he served as Project Engineer (Electrical) for the New England to Hydro Quebec HVDC Phase I Interconnection Project. In this role, he was responsible for engineering and construction oversight of a HVDC converter terminal and ac switchyard.

Following this successful assignment, he held management positions as Manager of Substation Engineering, Manager of District Distribution Engineering, and Manager of Protection and Process Engineering. He also served as the engineering business representative for the implementation of a new computer based accounting and project management system.

As Manager of Protection and Process Engineering, a role he maintained until joining EIG, Mike managed the group responsible for relay protection and control engineering for the National Grid USA transmission system, telecommunications engineering, and the implementation of new technology for improving operations efficiency. Major accomplishments in this role include the successful development of a standardized design for automated substation control, and the implementation of an enterprise-wide automatic vehicle location system.

Mike has authored/co-authored several technical papers and articles on automatic vehicle location systems, and field force automation. In addition, Mike is a member of the DistribuTech Advisory Committee, sponsored by PennWell Publishing.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology and a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is also a graduate of the GE Power Systems Engineering Course. Mike is a Registered Professional Engineer.
