James L. McGrath - Consulting Engineer

Jim has a wide range of experience in the electric utility industry.  He has worked for over 35 years in two major utilities in New England.  His positions covered a wide range of disciplines, and he assumed positions of responsibility very early in his career.  His broad background has introduced him to all facets of electric utilities with some exposure to natural gas utilities as well.

Jim worked at National Grid for over twenty-one years prior to joining EIG.  During those years he worked in various positions within the electrical generation and transmission organizations.  Jim had responsibility for a staff that planned the maintenance work for all scheduled and unscheduled generating unit outages in the 1500 MW Brayton Point generating station.  While in this position, he expanded the planning function to encompass all maintenance work and successfully migrated the planning function from a manual process to an automated maintenance management system.

During his time at National Grid, he also managed an Information Services group for a number of years that provided for the informational needs of the generation and transmission functions within National Grid.

Prior to joining National Grid, Jim worked for the Boston Edison Company (now NSTAR) for fifteen years.  He performed engineering, construction management, and operational management in and for generation stations, district heating plants, 345 kV & 230 kV transmission line installations (overhead and underground), and substation construction.  He was the responsible manager for all electrical and mechanical maintenance, feedwater treatment, wastewater treatment, and instrumentation and control in a 760 MW base load fossil fired generating station in central Boston for over seven years.  Jim was also lead engineer for various mechanical / electrical / instrumentation projects and technical studies related to electrical generating stations for a number of years.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University.  While there, he was inducted into the Pi Tau Sigma honorary fraternity.  He is also a long time member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
