Robert D. Galgano , PE - Consulting Engineer

Bob Galgano has a broad range of experience in electrical engineering and energy supply, including planning, design, construction, and operation of electrical distribution, transmission, and generation systems.  Prior to joining EIG, Bob worked for National Grid, one of the largest utilities in the US.  Bob’s experiences give him a solid background in the engineering and project management areas of the electric power field.

Bob worked for National Grid, formerly New England Electric System, for 22 years in the areas of distribution planning and engineering, transmission planning, and later in project management.  He started his career in distribution, where he became the lead engineer for the second largest city in New England.  Bob’s work covered overhead and underground distribution at 5, 15, 25 and 35 kV.  His underground experience includes the low voltage ac network where he designed and built network vaults, and led a $15M transformer replacement project.

Bob’s work in transmission and area supply planning included many studies to address load growth, thermal, voltage, reactive, reliability, asset management and economic issues.  Highlights of his transmission experience include performing a long range study of the New England 345 kV transmission network as part of a working group at the New England Power Pool, now ISO-NE.  Bob also performed permitting and licensing activities, including testimony at regulatory proceedings for substation expansion projects.

Bob became Manager of Distribution Planning and Engineering, first for the Central Division and later for all of New England where he led a group of 10 engineers with responsibility for a supply and distribution system serving 7,000 MW and 1.3 million customers in three states.  Bob’s experience includes performing and managing interconnection studies for distributed generation including biomass, wind, and cogeneration.  Bob also worked on the Distribution Planning working group of the Distributed Generation Collaborative at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.

More recently, as Manager of Resource Planning, Bob led a project management group responsible for a $400M portfolio of distribution and subtransmission line programs and projects across New England and upstate New York.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, specializing in power systems, from Northeastern University.  He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts.  He is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and its Power Engineering Society.
