“To Protect and Deter” – EIG’s Richard Dupre co-authors article on 69 kV line avian retrofits and re-insulation

EIG’s Richard Dupre has co-authored an article in the August 27, 2014 issue of T&D World magazine discussing efforts to improve the outage performance of the oldest 69 kV transmission lines in New England, National Grid USA’s A1 and B2 lines.  These efforts included ways to better deter nesting and perching of species such as the bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture and osprey.  Additional clearances and lightning protection were provided by re-insulating the lines to 115 kV.  The full article can be found here .
